When the town became an international resort in the second half of the 19th century, it was necessary to provide places of worship for a variety of religious denominations.

Despite the opposition of the conservative Catholic party, the small Jewish, Evangelical, Anglican and Russian Orthodox communities built their churches and synagogue, thanks to the personal support of the Emperor himself.

LITTLE CHURCH OF ST. VALENTIN

This is also located in Untermais, below Labers, next to the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle.

EVANGELIC CHURCH - CHRIST CHURCH

Since 1900, along the Passerpromenade, in an idyllic garden, there is the Evangelic Church and the house of the pastor.

Christians Today - The Evangelical Free-Church (EFK) Merano provides the opportunity to share fellowship with protestant Christians.

THE SYNAGOGUE

The Synagogue stands in what was once called Greutendamm, today the via Schiller-Straße.

RUSSIAN HOUSE THE ORTHODOX CHURCH

In the 19th and the 20th centuries many Russians chose Merano to escape from the extremes of the Russian winter and to receive medical treatment in a healthier climate.
