When the town became an international resort in the second half of the 19th century, it was necessary to provide places of worship for a variety of religious denominations.

 
THA PARISH CHURCH

The Parish Church is dedicated to Saint Nicolas, the patron saint of merchants, entrepreneurs and carters.

 
THE CHAPEL OF SAINT BARBARA

The chapel of Saint Barbara was consecrated in 1450 and was the mortuary chapel of the pre-existing cemetery.

 
THE CHURCH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

In 1271 Meinhard II had the hospital and the adjoining Church of the Holy Spirit built outside the walls of the town.

 

 
PARISH CHURCH OF ST. VIGILIUS
Located in the Untermais quarter, at the end of the Piave Strasse, the current tower stands on a 6-metre high Romanesque fundament; the church was built in the 13th and 14th centuries and the current building was constructed in 1934-36 over the Gothic apse.
 
THE CHURCH OF HOLY MARY OF COMFORT

The church dates back to the 12th century, but its origins are probably even more remote.

 
THE CHURCH OF THE SACRED HEART

This was originally the chapel of the Dame Inglesi/Englischen Fräulein. It was designed by Ferdinand Mungenast and built in 1903.

 
CAPUCHIN CHURCH OF ST. MAXIMILIAN
A simple church dating from the 16th century, adjacent to a venerable Capuchin monastery.
 
CHURCH OF ST. GEORGE
The church is located in the Cavour Strasse in Untermais.
 
LITTLE CHURCH OF ST. VALENTIN

This is also located in Untermais, below Labers, next to the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle.

 
THE EVANGELICAN CHURCH

The Evangelical Church and its parsonage, situated by the river Passirio/Passer and surrounded by a beautiful English garden, form a charming corner and a living reminder of the cosmopolitan Merano of the turn of the century.
